He said he got your permission so I'm just making sure.

If anything, you could say that the furthest your sprites may go is for you own game, right?

Nah, I didn't mean that. I meant like, if you wanted to use your fakemon for a hack, you'd make your own hack rather than giving the designs to a random person, right?

I agree. Even if I do sprites and menu concepts and all that, I do that for fun. And if it was used in a game, I'd rather have it in the official Mains series (which won't happen in a million years, but I can dream, right?)

Just sayin'... it takes waaaay more time to create a hack (cuz programming, and ''hacking'', like you say, IS an art in it's own way...) than create a little drawing of a fakemonthingy...

You may refuse to let people use them for hacks, and it's okay, but don't go ''everyone can make a hack'' sreiously, NOT everyone can make a hack... it's like if I was saying ''everyone can draw, because everyone can TRACE''... T__T

And I'll answer the question of ''if their gonna make hacks why not make their own freaking fakemon not try and use someone else?''
-->Well programming and drawing are two different art! People rarely have both talents. A good exemple would be my cousin, who is a programmer. He may be awesome as a programmer, but he doesn't have any drawing skill, so he kindly ask me to draw what he needs, may it be templates, logos, web desing.... ect!

And the second question: ''i'm sure if you wanted them used in a hack you'd make one yourself''
---> Hell no! Because I wouldn't know how to make a hack, a GOOD hack!

You may not want people to use them, and that's okay, but please, people, show a bit of respect for programmers! If someone wants to make a good game with my fakes... and that it's free to use by people! All right! It's awesome, that way, people will be happy NOT to pay a bunch of freackin dollars for those new fail-games nintendo are making!

If your going to compare the two then compare them fairly. Your talking about programming a whole game verses one fakemon that isn't fair at all. How about drawing 150 made up creatures. And sprite them, front and back, two frames each as well as dex sprites also 2 frames. And depending on the hack overworld sprites which are 8 frames (6 if the fake is symmetrical). Even without the extra your talking about 1050 pieces just for 150 fakemon. If you dump the official art and just wanted the sprites then its still 900 pieces of art you want done. I personally do not sprite fast and I am not a machine I can't work on it constantly. It turns my fun hobby into a job. A job I am not getting paid for. On a hack, if I am not mistaken, you already have a skeleton/engine already done for you. Well our fakemonthingies don't even have that. I am not belittling a fakemon hack. I am just trying to keep it practical. People want all this to be done for free for the "enjoyment of others" and some credit that doesn't even guarantee that those that are playing will even look at the credits. I don't know about you but I don't even pay attention to the credits of a game I just want to play it. I have a better chance of people knowing who made the art if I made the game myself than leaving it to chance that some kid will actually pay attention.

I do have respect for programmers, actual programmers. Not hyped up programmer wanna be's. I also have respect for those that know what I have to go through to be creative and are willing to pay for my services just as I am willing to pay a programmer to help with my Super Jes game. Also your comparing two different situations. You know your cousin and are willing to help, you also know that he can program well. I don't know any of the people that ask me. They just pop up out of no where just like you did. What am I suppose to trust that they are telling me the truth? All I am promised is credit for the artwork. I don't expect those that haven't been in my shoes to understand my position you haven't seen the world through my eyes and I can not show you either but these are my creations. I made them. I care about them. I can't just trust anyone with them.

You are willing to let others use your stuff because you don't like the new Pokemon games, which is fine. I enjoyed the new games so I don't understand your position.

I love that so many people like them, but I don't want people using them for their hacks when I worked so hard to create them. Great job! Oh and how do you use it? This Stamp is free right? ever heard of CREDITING? Lets say I used your Fakemon, Sprites, Whatevers in a game I made, any NORMAL person would credit the ideas to you, thus, completely legal and making you look stupid for complaining

:iconpokemonmasta:
PokemonMasta Featured By Owner Jul 19, 2012
:pokeball: The reason why I said that is because I would love for people to make their own Pokemon. I feel that people should express their own ideas instead of relying on other people to make them. That is why I don't give permission for people to use my Pokemon in games or hacks because I worked so hard on making them myself. If someone wanted to draw a Picture and credit me that's fine, but I wouldn't allow the use of them for a game. I'm sorry if you took my comment the wrong way, but that's just how I feel. I would like people to express themselves... you know? :D Some people do use people's ideas and sometimes they aren't credited. Probably someone is using my ideas right now and if someone who follows me does recognize my Pokemon, then I will be notified and it will be taken care of. There are people who have stolen from me in the past, so I feel very strongly about people using my Pokemon. I hope you understand. :) :pokeball:

"Same. I'm not opposed to having them used in a full fledged game, where I know that the people developing it are dedicated and knowledgeable, but a simple hack is nothing I take seriously. I have to trust what I'm submitting my babies to."

Implies that hackers are stupid, and not dedicated, and that hacks are pointless.

"ahh that sounds dumb just like that time i saw a edit ruby version with animecharectorsas pokemon"

Implies that hacking is dumb.

There was another one I think but I'm too lazy too look for it.
Point is, not everyone who hacks is stupid. In fact, most of the best hackers are in fact extremely smart, they have hacked new things into a game that previously had it, they have looked through the coding of the game and found things that previously nobody knew, and they have worked hard to make a game that people can enjoy.
Now, the people who edit a characters text to say stupid things with bad grammar and caps lock, make horrible edits of maps that really just look the same but with tile errors, and don't add anything to the game, only making slight edits to what they have, well in that case I agree, unless they are willing to learn, which most of those kinds of hackers are not.
Don't get me wrong, I agree. It may come as a surprise but people have actually asked to use my sprites before (obviously they were under the influence of alcohol. Idk maybe I'm just taking it too personally like I always do.

Oh, and by the way, none of this is a personal commentary on your work if you do something like that, but it's just a general work philosophy I've developed in (at least) 5-6 years I've been at this.

Jes summed it up pretty well. I put a lot of care and work into my fakes, and I have to be able to trust the person who wants to use them is competent and knows what they're doing. I've had a lot of requests to use my sprites, and unfortunately a majority of those hopefuls are amateurs. They're not dumb or stupid, they're just inexperienced, and a majority naive. I've received a lot of requests, and I get quite a bit of exposure, and there's a lot of people who would like to use my work. I don't feel that's at all arrogant to admit, because time has proven it true. My reputation is invested in my work, and to have someone use my work and won't make good use of them tarnishes my name (figuratively).

It may seem condemning, and draw what ever conclusions you wish, but for someone to simply hand over their work for others to use without any standard shows that they probably don't invest enough of themselves in their work. To not practice a degree of discrimination on the basis of taste and craft will ultimately be more harmful.

I think what lydario meant is that just about anyone can make a hack. Its just like anyone can trace a drawing but it takes a real artist to create a drawing. I mean anyone could take a hack rom and alter it into their own version of a game (it may take a tutorial and a forum to do it). But it takes a real programmer to make a new game from the ground up. That isn't really saying that people who trace or hack are stupid or not dedicated to what they do, but its just not as special as making something new or on your own. And in order to make something new or on your own you have to be creative, dedicated, and knowledgeable, because not everyone can draw something new or program a game from the ground up. Least that is my interpretation of what he meant.

As for Kaijukage, I think he is just generalized hacks and I honestly wouldn't take that seriously. I mean he didn't know what a hack was until I told him. And then his experience with a hack is a edited Ruby version with anime characters as pokemon, which he took as being bad. I mean its hard for me to take offense when the person hasn't had a good experienced with it in the first place. Say a person has a bad experience with one Harry Potter spoof. It doesn't make them all bad, but for them it was bad enough to generalize them all as being bad ideas. Its nothing the spoof makers did wrong or should really even take offense to.

And yeah you might have read too much into it.

Anyone can make a hack, but not anyone can make a good hack. It takes, as you said, a real artist. In fact in many ways it's harder to make a good hack than to make a good game because there are so many limitations. You can't add very much, you have to work with what you've got. And the thing is, most game makers don't program a game from scratch. They use a starter kit. A base. Exactly like a ROM.

Oh, ok, well I see where he's coming from with that then.

Seriously though this annoys me a lot. For three reasons:
1/ My sprites suck, you're out of your mind if you want to use them.
2/ I'm not gonna give a complete randomer my sprites. If it is a friend...there is a very slight possibility.
3/ My sprites are for my own game. :\
